Dave Wellington
Dave has been involved in music ever since he can remember. Like so many, he honed his skills in church, singing harmonies to the rich British hymnody and Chorus tunes of his youth. Later on he learned to play piano, then he learned the guitar. As a teenager he started writing songs on his own and with others for use in vocal harmony groups and bands, learning so much by getting out there and giving it a go in coffee bars and gigs.
He eventually started writing songs for use in church for sung worship some of which became anthems of the local church. All of this brought wider attention and eventually some were published thanks to CopyCare and Kingsway. In 1997 he moved with his family to London so he could join the staff at Kensington Temple, eventually becoming Music Pastor there, a role he enjoyed for 17 years. At KT his songs were sung widely at KT church itself, in its satellite churches and at National and International conferences. The songs helped to embed ideas and to give voice to Londoners wanting a fresh lyric to sing in worship. So many of those songs have wound their way onto recordings, and many of those are available to stream from the usual streaming platforms – they are also available to buy on CD at gigs.
Having left KT in 2014 Dave is now associate minister at Cheltenham Elim Church. He’s also available to bring the wealth of a lifetime of ministry experience in the music of Worship as a worship leader, consultant and guest speaker. Dave can also perform a wide repertoire of songs for all types of events and can run worship team training days.
