“Organising scores of creative people is quite a challenge for a festival director! One of the things that is great about Matt is that he puts the gig ahead of his personal needs, this make Matt a joy to work with as he goes beyond himself to deliver moving music with inspiring lyrics.” - James Stevens, KingsStock Music Festival

"Matt came to our Sunday Night Live event in February and was brilliant. He chose a range of popular covers and some of his own material, and sang and played guitar really well. He engaged with his audience well, telling some stories behind the songs and also encouraged us to sing along too with the songs we knew! Matt has a relaxed style to his performance, and shared his faith well through both his performance and also his interview questions! I would thoroughly recommend Matt for a cafe style church event. We all had a great night."  Melanie Whitlock, Sunday Night Live

"There is so much quality that oozes out of these songs. 'Won My Heart' has a modern synth beat that is the sound of now. The track 'All Things New' is an instant classic and my favourite song on the album, again the quality of Matt's songwriting is apparent on this song. There is something a bit Smiths & Morrissey about the track 'Fingerprints', a good song which is a little different to the rest of the EP.  You can see time and effort has been put into these songs and then into the production of the EP. What I like about these songs is that even though they have been given the studio treatment, you can tell that these songs will work in an acoustic setting or a church service. Matt McChlery has put together a wonderful EP that has a great mix of songs."..... extract from 4/5 Louder Than The Music review of ‘All Things New’

Matt McChlery

was born in Zimbabwe and from an early age it was apparent that he had natural musical ability.

Songwriting runs in the family as Matt's great, great, great grandfather, Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould wrote the classic hymn 'Onward Christian Soldiers'. Matt believes that some of the anointing he carries is part of a generational blessing as well as an individual mantle and calling upon his own life.

It was at Rhodes University, South Africa, where Matt's songwriting really started showing signs of maturity and were increasingly used to bless his local church.

Over the years Matt’s music has achieved success with his independent single 'Jewel of Africa' reaching the top 10 on the Zimbabwean chart and his worship album 'Fly' reaching number 13 on the NCM Euro Charts.

Matt has won various awards for his music and blog, received airplay on hundreds of radio stations around the world and appeared on a number of TV channels, including UCB TV in the UK and Dove TV in America.

Matt has also written and published a book called ‘Songcraft: Exploring the Art of Songwriting’. It combines theory, biblical insights and practical tips in an easy-to-read style.

In 2016 Matt was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (cancer) and took some time off ministry for treatment. During this time he wrote an award winning blog that chronicled his experiences of living with faith and cancer. Now in full remission, Matt is back making music and travelling the country and he is more than happy to share his experiences and what God has taught him through this difficult time.

Matt now lives with his wife Verity in the UK, teaching at a primary school. At the same time he is Director of Music and Worship Leader at his local church, The King's Church, Wisbech.

Matt is a very experienced and versatile artist who can perform or lead worship at any type of event.
