Matt McChlery

Matt McChlery was born in Zimbabwe and from an early age it was apparent that he had natural musical ability.  Songwriting runs in the family as Matt's great, great, great grandfather, Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould wrote the classic hymn 'Onward Christian Soldiers'. Matt believes that some of the anointing he carries is part of a generational blessing as well as an individual mantle and calling upon his own life.

Over the years Matt’s music has achieved success with his independent single 'Jewel of Africa' reaching the top 10 on the Zimbabwean chart and his worship album 'Fly' reaching number 13 on the NCM Euro Charts.  Matt has won various awards for his music and blog, received airplay on hundreds of radio stations around the world and appeared on a number of TV channels, including UCB TV in the UK and Dove TV in America.  Matt has also written and published a few books namely ‘Songcraft: Exploring the Art of Christian Songwriting’ and ‘All Things New: Stories of Transformed Lives’.

In 2016 Matt was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (cancer) and took some time off ministry for treatment. During this time he wrote an award winning blog that chronicled his experiences of living with faith and cancer. Now in full remission, Matt is back making music and he is more than happy to share his experiences and what God has taught him through this difficult time.  Matt now lives with his family in the UK where he is pursuing full-time church ministry and is a leader at his local church, The King's Church, Wisbech.  As well as writing songs Matt also preaches and writes books in order to help point people to Jesus. Matt is a very experienced and versatile artist who can perform or lead worship at any type of event.

“Organising scores of creative people is quite a challenge for a festival director! One of the things that is great about Matt is that he puts the gig ahead of his personal needs, this make Matt a joy to work with as he goes beyond himself to deliver moving music with inspiring lyrics.”
